HOW YOU CAN HELP

The West Hill Grandmothers Group does not have an operating budget. The success of our fundraising event will depend on the generous support of sponsors within the Montreal community.

Currently, we are excitedly planning our next project: a fashion event with Travis Taddeo, a vibrant Montreal designer of men’s and women’s wear. Joining Travis is the effervescent Montreal fashion director Sophie Lanza. These talented people are generously donating their time and efforts.

Our event will be held Saturday May 23, 2015 in Kildonan Hall, Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, 3415 Redpath (corner Sherbrooke West), Montreal.

We hope you will share our passion and commitment — we cannot do this alone. We invite you to consider our appeal by donating what you can to help make our fundraising project a resounding success.

Can you believe that 17.5 million children, approximately half the entire population of Canada, are orphaned by AIDS?

Few of us living in Canada can even begin to imagine the struggles African grandmothers face daily. These women cannot mourn the loss of their children because the immediate needs of their grandchildren must be met. Often one woman will have as many as ten children to love, feed, and educate. We know of one grandmother unable to plant vegetables in her garden because her nine children are buried there. Meeting some of these women, knowing many by name, and hearing their stories we are amazed and inspired by their strength and resolve.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation uses the funds raised by Canadian grandmother groups to supply and help maintain food, school uniforms, income-generating programmes, counselling, social support, essential shelter and other necessities. The West Hill Grandmothers Group and over 250 similar groups across Canada organize fundraising events throughout the year. All proceeds go directly to the Foundation.
